Our story

AeroTow was founded in 1996 by Terry Railing. As a licensed private pilot, he saw a need for a better way to move small airplanes and he started building his line of AeroTow airplane tugs. With a background in machining, aviation, tool and die model making – starting the AeroTow company was a natural fit.

He was one of the original owners of Chapter 2, a machine shop that produced the Gettelman Lug-Bug. Terry also owned and operated a True Value Hardware store for several years before he started Aero-Tow.

In 2014, Terry’s wife Kathy joined Aero-Tow full time. She is a licensed private pilot and handled the bookkeeping and advertising of the business. They travel the country and attend tradeshows where they have made great friends and connections over the years.

When Terry and Kathy started thinking about retirement, they were looking for a company to take over Aero-Tow. Through a mutual supplier, Aero-Tow connected with Amigo Mobility, a battery-operated cart manufacturer in mid-Michigan. When Al and Beth Thieme, founder and owners of Amigo Mobility, met with Terry, there was an instant connection and mutual passion for helping their customers find a better way.

Amigo Mobility was founded in 1968 when Al Thieme invented the first motorized mobility cart for a family member with a walking disability. A former plumbing and heating contractor, Thieme grew the business out of his garage to a 100k sq. ft. facility located across the street from the original small shop in his garage. Today, Amigo Mobility manufacturers a variety of battery operated carts and tugs, and sells to grocery stores such as Walmart, Target and Kroger, to healthcare customers, hospitals, warehouses and industrial facilities. Amigo Mobility is proud to continue Terry and Kathy’s dedication to their customers and manufacturing dependable products while keeping the name and spirit alive.
